At the time Vesta was offered for sale, I was actually not at all open for a new woof. German standing longhair ruffles had only gone to sleep 3 weeks earlier and I was still in so much grief.
Encouraged by Hubby, my husband, we drove to Barbara in Boxmeer, she had bred Vesta and together with her brother Banco, mother Kylie and grandmother Mia we walked into the backyard. She romped over, through and under all the play attributes, GREAT!! Then her front feet went into the drinking trough to cool off, so comical 😂.
And yet I had one major (aesthetic) blockage, namely the brown spot on het hindquarters. In retrospect, this turned out to be one of the breed characteristics after all.
That funny Vesta kept going through both our heads and sent Barbara a message asking if she would be willing to come to the Boksheide with Vesta. In our own area where is room for this size of dog.
It would have been good to take a week, see her in our environment excited. Grandma Mia and mum Kylie immediatly chased a chicken in the garden, well they are still hunting dogs 😏. All the other Shorthorn Griffons went back with Barbara and Vesta stayed with us.
The next morning into the meadow and the little 9-week-old ran into the electric wire, which was not practical and I comforted Vesta. On the tractor why her and presto she had already lost or forgotten the pain. She already knew her name and came immediately if you called her in a high-pitched voice combined with clapping your hands. Vesta…👏. Handsome.
On the tractor, in the car, in the bike basket, we put het in everything. But soon she was big enough and jumped in the car on the tractor by herself. Unfortunately but sadly, the basket on the bike fell of… When she was nine month old she had her first experience of hunting, along with the men, an unguided projectile. now at almost six, she has a nose for deer game management.
Taking trips in the car with her is still super fun, mergelland-, vechtroute and bulb fields and when the opportunity arises just stretching het long legs on the forest path,. In the Vosges, where friends live down- and up-hill, we see Vesta improve het stamina. On the floor behind the front seats, a special anti-slip mat has been fitted for madam for her many turns, so she slides a lot less back and forth in the back.
On to new adventures with Snorriebor.
